Instagram has officially doubled the number of photos and videos that can be uploaded in a single post, up to a total of 20 items. This increases the maximum capacity of carousels, which had recently also incorporated the possibility of being accompanied by background music.

The new change is rolling out across the Instagram network, so don’t worry if you are still stuck at 10 pics per carousel. You may (or may not) get the ability to do 15-20 pics in a future update. The best thing you can do is keep your mobile app updated, and check once a week to see if you have the feature.
The choice of the Meta social network follows the trend of so-called photo dumps, i.e. uploads of numerous images in one go, which users increasingly prefer to use within posts. On the one hand, this practice avoids wasting too much time selecting photos and short videos to share with contacts and, on the other, it turns the Instagram feed into an even larger gallery of personal memories.
How to take advantage of the new feature
Since 2017, Instagram has not changed the maximum number of content that can be uploaded in a single post, that is, since the app allowed up to 10 photos or videos to be uploaded. Seven years later, the number has doubled, to 20 materials, which is still far from the 35 allowed by its archrival TikTok.
Instagram announced the news through a story on its official profile, an announcement that was made practically silently and that did not even appear on the company’s blog, as usual: after all, users will be able to discover for themselves the new increased limit when they try to upload a carousel, with a notification (see below or in the main image) informing them of the 20 files that are now allowed. Twenty, like the recent maximum number of songs that can currently be used in a single carousel.
The new Instagram feature had been anticipated by rumours last March and is now being rolled out globally. To make sure you are in the first line to receive it, the advice is to always keep the application updated to the latest version available on both iPhone and Android.
